Ha joon chang edible economics5/23/2023 For Chang, chocolate is a life-long addiction, but more exciting are the insights it offers into post-industrial knowledge economies and while okra makes Southern gumbo heart-meltingly smooth, it also speaks of capitalism's entangled relationship with freedom and unfreedom. He uses histories behind familiar food items - where they come from, how they are cooked and consumed, what they mean to different cultures - to explore economic theory. In Edible Economics, Chang makes challenging economic ideas more palatable by plating them alongside stories about food from around the world. Just as eating a wide range of cuisines contributes to a more interesting and balanced diet, so too is it essential we listen to a variety of economic perspectives. But this is bland and unhealthy - like British food in the 1980s, when bestselling author and economist Ha-Joon Chang first arrived in the UK from South Korea. For decades, a single free market philosophy has dominated global economics. Boundary Lines by Isla Ryder5/22/2023 As a result, the border represents the limit, or the furthest extent, of space over which a government has sovereignty.Within its borders, a single government has complete authority, which is unaffected by other governments. The space between sovereign states is defined by an international boundary. It is not necessary that the boundary lines only split two countries these can be between states, cities or even provinces. The symbol for international boundary is a combination of dashes and/or dots. The types of international boundaries are classified on distinct factors, from cultural landscape, religion, and language, to the course of a river. These designations on the border help us identify the dividing line between countries with territorial limits. International Boundary Lines are lines of separation between two countries, wherein individual governments have full authority over the land on each side. Paul auster 4321 reviews5/22/2023 With the help of, for example, de Certeau’s city-texturology, the article shows how the spatial practices of walking and writing (in) the city creates Ferguson’s embodied lifelines. Lines do not merely connect immobile points, such as locations on a map, but rather, are movements along which life is made and revealed. The starting point is the anthropologist Tim Ingold’s notion that all life is realized as a series of entangling lines, a meshwork of random occurrences, which move to and fro in various directions rather than as a straight line from birth to death. This article explores how the four interweaving storylines of the contemporary US author Paul Auster’s novel, 4 3 2 1 (2017), create its protagonist Archie Ferguson through his embodied spatial experience of New York City. Forever Man by A.J. DeWall5/22/2023 Annie does a wonderful job of world building and character exposition as the story goes on, unlocking pieces of the puzzle bit by bit, just enough at a time to propel the story forward. I really enjoyed getting to know these men as their character was revealed throughout the story. I grieved along with them as they mourned something they had longed for but thought would never be, squealed as they allowed themselves to fall into each other, laughed at some of the ridiculous situations they found themselves in, and cried as they regained hope for an eternal soul love. I guess I’ve become known for having my nose in my Nook instead in a book! I was immediately drawn into the story and got lost in the world of Santa Fe, Ren, and Cole. I was not disappointed.įirst of all, my children practically fell over because I was reading a real book with paper pages and everything. I have been a huge fan of Annie’s fanfiction for a long time, and I was so excited to get a sneak peek at her first novel in print. I was lucky enough to read an advance copy of Forever Man by AJ DeWall from Interlude Press. Outpost book ann aguirre5/22/2023 This review is based on a copy received from Amazon Vine. Control by lydia kang5/22/2023 Zelia has moved around the States which are basically their own provinces all her life with her little sister Dyl and her doctor father. Friends, if you do not have this on your TBR list quite yet, I will let you take a break from reading this review to go add it. There’s a really interesting story and world in Kang’s debut novel, one that really grabbed hold of my magpie-esque attention span. FYI those are pages of things that typically don’t appeal to me - science, mutants, DNA, experiments, future technology. ALSO! Control does start off kind of slowly, but you guys, once I got into it, it took me two days to whip through all 400 pages. Yet I had read a few reviews that made me kind of apprehensive. This is not to say that I went into the book expecting to hate it, far from it. I am going to state right now that I am a tiny bit surprised at how much I enjoyed Control by Lydia Kang. |
